As quoted "The word “maundy” comes from the Latin word mandatum, from which we get our word mandate. In the late-fourth-century Bible edition, the Vulgate, Jerome used this word in translating Jesus’s love command."

1. Jesus tells the Disciples, "Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." In what ways are we to picture the love of Christ to one another?

Read 1 John 2

1.  What similar language do you see used in 1 John and in John 13:24?

2. Why is it important that The Apostle John uses this language in light of his being present when Jesus Gave the "New Commandment"?

3. How is Jesus' new commandment linked to a love of God and your fellow Christians?

4. Why is the Love commandment of Jesus different than a love for worldly things? Can a love for the world and a love for Christ exist at the same time?

5. How is the madatum to love linked to eternal life? (verse 25)

6. Who do you know that needs to hear this today?
